Lego Books

The world of Lego’s has grown and morphed over the years to a level that is astonishing by any measure. Lego’s were born in Denmark in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen. He began building wood blocks and in 1949 his company created the plastic interlocking blocks. It wasn’t until 1958 however when the design was perfected and solidified and the Lego’s that we know and love today were born.

The Lego toy has become a standard among children around the world. Their allowance for creative play makes them popular among parents and the endless possibilities seem to draw kids in as they enjoy the creativity that Lego’s allow.

Today Lego’s have become more than a toy, the brand has expanded into movies, video games, books, theme parks, clothing, and more. Since the original design there have been thousands of separate Lego products made in every imagineable category. Some of the themes of the Lego brand have been; town and city, space, robots, pirates, trains, Vikings, castle, dinosaurs, undersea exploration, and wild west.

Legos have traditionally been a male-oriented toy. However, Lego is now designing and marketing legos that are themed specifically for girls. Time will tell if this new endeavor is a success.

As Lego’s have coincided with pop culture the Lego books and magazines have gained popularity. The Lego books are published by DK Publishing. There are currently hundreds of Lego related books in print. Books range from stories that take place in one of the Lego themes (like the Lego City) to books about Lego creations.

Children can now read stories that take place in the surroundings of toys they have actually created. They marvel when a story contains a helicopter or a gas station that they proudly have displayed in their room. The mini figures they collect are part of the stories themselves. Ships and pirates come to life in story form and are no longer just a part of their imagination. They are something tangible and real.

There are many Lego books that your children are sure to love. We at www.bookfair.org have compiled a list of our favorites (and our children’s favorites). Your children will most definitely enjoy the books that accompany the Legos that they love. Take some time to browse our list of favorites and add them to your own library!
