Dancing Feet! by Lindsey Craig

“Clickity! Clickity! Long green feet!

Who is dancing that clickity beat?

Lizard is dancing on clickity feet.

Clickity! Clickity! Happy feet!”

-From “Dancing Feet!” by Lindsey Craig

This is a wonderful book for adults to read to the preschoolers in their young lives. The rhythmic pattern of the words will have everyone bouncing to the beat in no time and the silly concepts are entertaining and easy for little ones to understand. The whimsical illustrations by Marc Brown add even more silly fun to the lively tone of this book and children interact with the story by trying to guess who’s dancing across the pages by looking for clues in the illustrations and listening to the rhymes.Everyone will be tapping their toes to the beat!

The bouncing rhythm in Lindsey Craig’s book most likely comes from her background in dancing and singing.  Along with children’s books, she has written a musical and a children’s play entitled “Cinderella’s Shakespeare”.  Her book “Dancing Feet!” won Best Book for Babies 2011, awarded by Fred Rogers Company along with The School of Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Association for the Education of Young Children, and was the 2010 Gold Winner of the National Parenting Publications Awards.

So, if you’re looking for a book to engage preschoolers and inspire a love of reading, I highly recommend “Dancing Feet!”.   Who knows, reading time may turn into dancing time with your children.  And don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing “clickity, clickity, happy feet…” when the kids aren’t even around!
