The Best Workbooks

With the end of every school year comes the anticipation of the fun and adventure that summer will hold. Children get time to explore, be outside, and just be kids. As parents and educators we love the fun relaxation that summer brings. But we also want to ensure that all that was learned in school is not forgotten. Studies have shown that students can lose more than 2 months of the knowledge gained over the school year during the summer.

An easy and fun way to keep a young mind sharp through the summer months is with workbooks. Below are some of our favorites.
By simply taking a few moments daily (or even weekly) during the summer we can help students minds stay sharp and ready for the upcoming school year. Skills come easily to young children when they are in school and learning with daily practice and repetition. Unfortunately those skills can also be lost just as easily if the daily repetition ends suddenly at the close of school.

The kindergartner who knew all of his letters may revert to mixing up his b’s and d’s. The first grader who could write a paragraph at the close of the year may forget sentence and paragraph structure. The third grader who had passed all of her times tables may become a bit rusty if she doesn’t practice for months.

If possible parents can talk with their children’s teachers before the end of the school year to find out what areas their students would benefit the most from as they study during the summer.
