Boredom Busters

Beat the heat this summer with a great book full of all sorts of fun! With one of these fabulous books your days are sure to be full of fun and adventure. Your child can learn a new hobby, enjoy an activity book, and even explore the outdoors. With this much fun to be had kids won’t even have a chance to say, “I’m Bored!

Children can take advantage of the extra time that naturally comes with summer and develop a new talent or hobby (or of course keep working on an existing one). The benefits of children having hobbies are numerous. Children develop a sense of accomplishment and increase their self-esteem when they are able to pass the time doing something that they truly love. Many children naturally develop hobbies over time. As adults we can foster our children’s interests. If our child demonstrates an interest in cooking, we can buy them a cook book and let them practice in the kitchen. By showing in interest in what they love our children will feel important and successful.

Many children say that their favorite past time is reading! Children can become immersed in a book that is interesting to them, but also teaches them something new that they might enjoy doing. Cooking, knitting, drawing, and sports can all be taught and enhanced through a book. Summer is also a great time for children to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. They just might develop a love for nature and exploring when they take time to experience all that comes alive each and every summer.

Parents can also introduce a new hobby to children, especially one that we notice our child might be successful at. If we notice a child has excellent fine motor skills we might introduce them to the world of model creating or knitting. A child who demonstrates artistic skills might be given art books or signed up for art lessons.

Your child’s summer will be full of much more fulfillment if the time is passed doing activities they love than sitting around being bored. And if we take the time to foster their interests, or even just buy them a fun book full of great activities, their summer will be a time of learning and enjoyment!
