Fancy Nancy

Jane O’Connor, who was raised and still resides in Manhattan, wrote the first Fancy Nancy book in 2002 and it was published in 2005.  The idea for Fancy Nancy simply came to O’Connor one evening while at home.  The beginning and end of the story came to her almost instantaneously; it was the middle that she had to work on for quite some time.  Since the original Fancy Nancy book there have been over 40 Fancy Nancy books published.  The popularity has been astounding among young readers.  Jane O’Connor has found a niche that appeals to nearly every little girl, because for some reason little girls love to be fancy!
 

O’Connor has paired with Robin Preiss Glasser, who has illustrated the Fancy Nancy books and brought Nancy to life.  O’Connor has credited Glasser with much of the success of the Fancy Nancy books. 
 
Not only are the Fancy Nancy books a great read for entertainment they also teach children something along the way.  Vocabulary is much more appealing to learn and apply when instead viewing it as simply using big words; you are doing something fancy and grown up.  There are also several Fancy Nancy books that are leveled readers.  Making it possible for young children to read the books on their own and enjoy them over and over again.  Solidifying the vocabulary in a fun way as they read and reread the stories!
