Books That Help Prepare for Travel Experiences

Summer is a time for family vacations. While vacations create positive family memories they can also provoke anxiety in children who don’t know what to expect. If your child will be experiencing a travel first, such as flying on an airplane, consider preparing them for the trip with appropriate children’s books on the subject.

My First Trip on an Airplane by Vic Parker book explains the entire process including packing, checking suitcases, security, the jet way, listening to safety instructions, landing and more. It will provide all of the details your child should know before heading to the airport so they will be prepared for the many aspects of air travel.

My Plane Trip by Cathy Beylon is not your typical coloring book.  It contains 22 scenes that represent what your child will encounter on their first flight. Each scene includes two sentences of text describing what is happening. It is a bonus to be able to color this informative book. Great for reading in advance of the flight and coloring to keep occupied while on the plane.

Five Trucks by Brian Floca

This book is not about the flight process your child will experience but shows what happens in the background at the airport. Children will be excited to try and spot the trucks that make airplane flight possible after reading this book.

Airplanes by Martha Rustad

A new experience is a great way to expose your child to something they haven’t learned about yet. This book provides information about the history and science of flight. Parents will gain new knowledge along with their child.

Build excitement prior to the first flight by reading these books with your child. Reduce anxiety and enjoy a positive summer vacation experience!
